About the Artist

The Journey
I've always had a keen interest in fixing things and making them new, which fortunately led me right into the field of retouching. Before graduating with a BFA and an illustration major, I went looking for a way to apply artistic skills in the rapidly expanding computer field. An internship found me, I landed a job at a pre press shop in Detroit post graduation. This being Detroit, there's really only one product around, retouching just about any car in any situation you can imagine. After a number of years, and wanting to expand my horizons, I took a job at another pre press shop and moved to New York (that was crazy). I spent many years there learning the ins and outs of retouching, color theory and printing. Those environments teach you to be fast and good, and ready for just about anything and my time spent there was invaluable. The retouching ran the gamut from Vogue covers to National geographic, with a smorgasbord of every image in between. I picked up oil painting and plein air painting right before I moved to the agency side many years ago. Oil painting has been indispensable in training my eye for retouching. When you paint, you learn what makes something look correct, perspective, light, shadow, detail, color, and all these things have been interwoven into my retouching life. Since that time, I've been with a number of agencies while applying everything I've learned along the way to create and make the best possible imagery out of every assignment.
